In the closest race on the ballot Tuesday in Covington County, voters returned Place 5 Covington County Board of Education member Jimmy Prestwood to office.

Prestwood defeated former county Superintendent of Education Terry Holley by 122 votes, 3,519 to 3,397.

“I really appreciate those that voted,” Prestwood said.

“I’m tickled to have the win,” he said. “Now, it’s back to board business and to continue work. I’m excited to be here for another six years.”

Holley said he appreciated the support he received and hopes for nothing by the best for the board.

“I still care a lot about Covington County Schools,” he said. “I will continue to be very active with my grandchildren.”
