Weekend concert slated in Paxton

Looking for a fun way to enjoy the sunny weather this weekend? If so, look just across the state line, where Florida Farmers Market will present an out-of-school bash Saturday in Paxton as part of its First Saturday event series.

According to organizers, singer and songwriter Cody Copeland will be on hand to perform a free concert beginning at 11 a.m. Organizer Heather Johnson said Copeland’s music is sure to appeal to a large audience.

“Cody Copeland’s alt-pop originals employ a wide span of instruments, ranging from thick slabs of vintage synthesizers to both analog and electronic drums, glockenspiel, acoustic guitar and occasionally accordion,” she said. “All of which he plays, records and produces himself. These textural elements back a bright smoky vocal delivery, which Copeland says is influenced by a childhood favorite crooner, Roy Orbison.”

Johnson said Copeland’s songs are just about life.

“His songwriting takes you from new love to old; betrayal to forgiveness; hometown to downtown; and everywhere in between, all with a softness that comforts you from your worst days to your best,” she said.

Along with the music, Saturday’s bash will also include children’s games and locally made crafts for sale.

Booth spaces are still available for $15, and covered spaces are on a first-come, first-serve basis. Organizers ask that vendors bring their own table, chairs and cash box. Tents are allowed. All money raised at the monthly events fund other community events for Paxton. First Saturday events are held from March through December. Florida Farmers Market is located on Hwy. 331 next to Paxton High School. For more information, call 850.708.9195 or visit at FLFarmersMarket.com.
