Fred’s Pharmacy hit again

For the fifth time in the last few months, a local pharmacy has been burglarized, but law enforcement officials now have a suspect – at least in one of the cases.

On Thursday evening, Fred’s Pharmacy on S. Three Notch Street was burglarized for the second time in less than a month.

Andalusia Assistant Chief of Police Paul Dean told The Star-News Friday afternoon that investigators interviewed a person of interest early yesterday morning, and the individual soon became a suspect.

Dean said an undisclosed amount of controlled substance medications were taken from the business.

Dean said the APD criminal investigations division was working in cooperation with the Drug Task Force to execute a search warrant outside of the Andalusia City Limits.

The pharmacy was first burglarized on May 14, after which officers found a broken window in front of the business, from which entry was made by at least one person. Dean said Thursday’s burglary was the same scene.

Darby’s Pharmacy on S. Three Notch Street was burglarized in February, and last weekend its location on E. Three Notch Street was also hit. In both instances, specific prescription medications appeared to have been targeted.

Additionally, an Opp pharmacy also fell victim to burglary earlier this year.

Dean said it is currently unknown if the break-ins are related.

He said he expects to release the suspect’s name on Monday.

“We just wanted to let the public know we are making progress in this case,” he said.
