RICHARD PRESTON SMITH

Richard Preston Smith Sr., 84, passed away on Fri., June 6, 2014.

Smith was born in Andalusia on Aug. 9, 1929. He was employed at Brookley Air Force Base in Mobile until the base’s closure, after which he transferred to McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento. Smith moved to Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Ga. in 1971, where he retired from Avionics in 1993. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1954. While stationed at Misawa Air Base, Japan, he sang in a quartet with T.W. Hunt, Chaplain Asst., and Sgts. Murray and Hoft.

Before leaving his hometown, he sang in gospel quartets, usually with his dad and siblings and on the local radio station on Sunday mornings.

Smith was a member of Green Acres Baptist Church in Warner Robins and sang with the choir for many years.He also taught Sunday school at Elberta Healthcare for over twenty years. In his free time, Smith enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and the outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Buren and Rose Esther Moody Smith, of Andalusia; his wife and mother of their three children, Cora Lee Dorsey Smith; brother, William Buren Smith Jr. of Andalusia; two sisters and three brothers-in-law, Margie Smith (Carl) Franklin of Andalusia, Edna Smith (Robert) Howell of Mobile and Howard Huggins of Opp; and an infant grandson, Hayden Monroe Taylor.

His memory will forever be treasured by his wife of twenty-four years, Helen Smith of Centerville, Ga.; children, Rick Smith, Jr. (Colette) of Lynn Haven, Fla., Gwen Wilson (John) of Macon, Ga. and Angie Taylor (Hank) of Apex, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Josey and Tyler Hunt of Athens, Ga., Halley Rose Wilson of Macon, Apryl Ashley (Noel) of Altamonte Springs, Fla., Dr. Sara Jordan of Blacksburg, Va., Tina Bassett (Brian) of Panama City, Fla., Presley and Henry Dalton Taylor of Apex; five great-grandchildren; sister, Bonnie Huggins of Opp; sister-in-law, Ruby Parr Smith of Andalusia; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Sun., June 8, 2014, from 5 until 7 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Mon., June 9, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Entombment with Military Honors will follow in Magnolia Park Mausoleum. Dr. Johnny Ellison will officiate.

LILLIE BELL  HENLEY

Lillie Bell Henley, 90, of Andalusia, passed away Fri., June 6, 2014, at her residence.

Funeral services were Sun., June 8, from Oakey Ridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Eugene Meadows, the Rev. Billy Boles and the Rev. Carl Douglas officiating. Interment followed in Oakey Ridge Cemetery.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Henley; a special “daughter,” Angie Kelley of Andalusia; three brothers, Mack Fuqua, William (Edna) Fuqua of Andalusia, Delmar (Jean) Fuqua of Crestview and sister-in-law, Lavonia Fuqua of Andalusia.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Lee Henley; her parents, Will and Bettie Mae Fuqua; and her brothers and sisters, T. J. Fuqua, Willie Mae Franklin, Foncelee Chavers and Gene Fuqua.

Pallbearers were Johnny Stewart, Ralph Barfoot, Tommy Griffin, Joey Williams, Jim Wood and Jim Mooney

Honorary Pallbearers were Bill Anderson, Jessie Joe Wiggins, Veston Bailey, Michael Stewart, Ed Russell, Johnnie Meeks and Ed Schmidt.

JOHNNIE MAE DOUGLAS HUCKABAA SPEARS

Johnnie Mae Douglas Huckabaa Spears, 75, of Andalusia, passed away Sun., June 8, 2014, in the Andalusia Hospital.

Funeral services will be Wed., June 11 at 2 p.m. at Carolina Baptist Church with the Rev. Durwood Cleland officiating. Interment will follow in the Huckabaa Family Cemetery. Visitation will be from today, Tues., June 10 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Foreman Funeral Home and at the church 30 minutes prior to services.

She is survived by a son, Henry Clayton (Linda) Huckabaa Jr. of Andalusia; daughters, Carolyn (Jack) McGowin of Red Level, Linda (Kenny) Hendrix and Dorothy (Donald) Florer of Andalusia; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Henry (Edith) Douglas of Andalusia and Thurman (Barbara) Douglas of Red Level; and sister, Marie Aughtman of Andalusia.

Pallbearers will be Nathan Brown, Clayton Hendrix, Eric Eckenrod, Lenny Eckenrod, Kendall Hendrix, Tony Wayne Bradley, Wesley Bass and Jason Smith.
