Deadline nearing for K4 apps

Parents have just a few days left to make application for their children to participate in Andalusia City Schools’ first Pre-K Program. Applications should be submitted no later than Mon., June 30.

The system was notified in May that funding had been approved for a local Pre-4 class. The grant funds will pay a teacher and an aide for the class, which will be held at Andalusia Elementary School.

The class can accommodate 18 to 20 children, said special education coordinator Sonja Hines. The first class will be selected through a lottery system.

Applications are available on the system’s web site, at the central office, and at AES. To apply:

• Children must be 4 years old by Sept. 1, 2014.

• A parent or guardian must be a resident of the Andalusia City School district.

• Parents must provide a copy of the child’s birth certificate, and a copy of their utility bill with the application.

Parents will be notified by July 8, 2014, if their children have been selected for participation.

Once children have been selected, parents must participate in a mandatory parent meeting.

Parents of children who are selected will be required to provide a child’s Social Security card, immunization records, and medical history. The child must also participate in a health screening process.

Those who apply after June 30 will be placed on a waiting list. For information, contact Hines at 222-3186.
