Andalusia crime stats ‘stable’

Crime statistics for 2013 released last week by the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center show stable crime rates and some improved clearance rates in Andalusia. (See chart)
Police Chief Paul Hudson presented the results to the Andalusia council Tuesday.
Andalusia is grouped with 38 other cities with a reported population of 5,000 to 10,000.
The top 10 cities in that grouping are Russellville, Rainbow City, Valley, Tuskegee, Andalusia, Sheffield, Clanton, Tuscumbia, Bay Minette, and Guntersville.
In 2013, the APD:
• Answered 26,886 calls for service.
• Took 2,255 reports. Of those, 1,555 were offenses and 700 were incidents.
• Made 661 arrests.
• Responded to 267 traffic accidents.
• Issued 1,069 traffic citations and 594 warning citations.
At present, there are 23 registered sex offenders in Andalusia. Of those, 15 live within the city limits; eight additional ones are employed within.
