An Opp man is in jail after he allegedly stabbed another Opp man on Hardage Circle in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Opp Police Chief Mike McDonald said Thursday that officers responded to a report of “one down” at an apartment around 2:40 a.m.

When officers arrived, a 48-year-old victim was transported to Mizell Memorial Hospital with a “life-threatening stab wound,” McDonald said.

On Thursday morning, investigators arrested 40-year-old Amos Lorrell Matthews and charged him with assault first-degree.

Matthews is being held in the Covington County Jail on a $350,000 bond.

McDonald said the OPD was assisted by officers with the United States Probation Office.
