August proves to be dry month

If you think August was a long, dry month, rainfall totals collected by the Choctawhatchee, Pea, and Yellow Rivers Watershed Management Authority will prove you were right.
The organization recorded 2.64 inches of rain at Yellow River on Hwy. 55 in August, compared with 7.4 inches in the same period last year.
To date, rainfall has totaled 46.48 inches in 2014, compared to 49.24 inches in the same period last year.
The trend holds across the Choc-Pea region.
In neighboring Coffee County:
• Big Creek (Hwy. 87 North) 45.20 inches year to date, compared to 47.32 last year.
• Pea River in Elba, 39.72 inches year to date, compared to 48.24 last year.
• Enterprise (rainfall only) 45.12 inches year to date, compared to 53.20 last year.
• Pea River at Folsom Bridge, Hwy. 167 North, 44.16 inches year to date, compared to 52.28 last year.
• Whitewater Creek at Lowry Mill, 45.64 inches year to date, compared to 44.04 last year.

• Choctawhatchee River at Hwy. 52 in Geneva, 47.16 inches year to date, compared to 69.28 last year.
• Double Bridge Creek, County Rd. 40 in Sellersville, 41.52 inches year to date, compared to 55.84 last year.
