A 67-year-old Opelika woman was jailed over the weekend after she allegedly caused a head-on collision near Wing Friday night.

According to reports from the Alabama State Troopers, Barbara Sevall Woolley was traveling south bound on state Hwy 137 near mile marker 7.8, when she lost consciousness and her 2005 Toyota Prius crossed the center line and struck a 2003 Ford Escape XLT traveling northbound, just before 10 p.m.

Reports indicate that the driver of the second vehicle, John Gerald Elms of Chester, Va., had no time to react and was hit head on.

Woolley and an unknown passenger in Elms’ vehicle were trapped, but there were no injuries, according to the crash report.

State Troopers said Monday that after conducting field sobriety tests, it was clear Woolley was under the influence and was arrested.

She was charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance and was held in the county jail under at $7,500 bond.

Woolley has since made bond.
