The Lower Alabama Arts Coalition has issued a call for entries in its first juried arts show, which will have at least $1,100 in cash awards.

Shelia Rhea, who manages the arts center on East Three Notch, said the organization will accept entries Oct. 1 – 31 in six categories: acrylic, oil, watercolor, 3D (clay, wood, stone), photography, and miscellaneous.

A college art department will jury the entries, she said, and the winning entries will be shown in the month of November.

The first place winner in each of the six categories will receive a $100 cash award, and a $500 best in show award also is planned.

Artists also will be recognized with a reception from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. at LAAC on Tues., Nov. 18. The reception will double as a Chamber Business After Hours event.

Rhea said that LAAC board members would like to make the juried show an annual event.
