Cathy Edmondson counted herself extremely lucky Friday night when neither she, nor family members and employees were injured in a bizarre accident.

The owner of Elan Formals, located across East Three Notch from Winn Dixie, had closed the shop and was standing in the parking lot with family members and employees. She left them in front and went to check the building’s side door when she was startled by a crash.

The driver of a Jeep, identified as Keith Kipp, was traveling on East Three Notch when he veered toward Antioch Road and hit a pickup truck parked in front of the retail shop, crashing it through the door and windows. Kipp’s vehicle then hit a second parked vehicle parked beside Elan Formals, knocking it forward toward where Edmondson was standing.

“All of a sudden there was stuff flying everywhere,” she said. “And Brandon (Shipman, who was standing in front of the building) was hollering to see if I was OK.”

Kipp was handcuffed at the scene after officers searched his vehicle. No further information about the investigation was available Friday night.

The accident occurred shortly after 6 p.m.

Edmondson said she had some damaged merchandise, but planned to open this weekend.

“We will have to board up the front, but people can come in the side door,” she said. “We had special events planned this weekend, and expect them to continue.”
