FAIRYE CARPENTER WISE

1008 Wise obit picMrs. Fairye Carpenter Wise, 95, of Andalusia, died on Mon., Oct. 6, in a local hospital.

Funeral services were held on Thurs., Oct. 10, from the First United Methodist Church of Andalusia. The Rev. Timothy Trent will officiate. Interment will be in the Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Gail Wise Savage and Thomas W. Savage of Andalusia; two grandchildren, Kathryn Carty and Lonnie Mixon of Mobile, and Jennifer Carty and Chris McHargue of Fayetteville, N.C.; and five great-grandchildren, Christopher Gerhart, Lauren E. Chodkiewicz, Alexander Chodkiewicz, Hunter Berryhill and Alexis McHargue.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mark and Bertha Sellers Carpenter of McKenzie; her husband of 53 years, Saxon Lee Wise; and her son, Mark Saxon Wise.

Pallbearerswill be Richard Jones, Chet Thrash, Ivan Bishop, Ben Bowden, John Croft and Bill Patton.

Mrs. Wise was born and reared in McKenzie and graduated from high school there. She then attended the University of Montevallo, then Iowa State where she received her masters degree in early childhood development. After moving to Andalusia with her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Wise owned and operated Wise Tractor Company for several years. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church for 58 years and served her church in various roles during her lifetime. She was also a member of the Cynosure Club. Mrs. Wise enjoyed working with the Boy Scouts of America. After her son’s death in 1980, Mrs. Wise and her husband were very active in the building of the Mark Saxon Wise Scout Hut in Andalusia. Mrs. Wise also enjoyed many activities such as traveling extensively, square dancing, reading, attending elderhostels and camp retreats with her church. Mrs. Wise also served on the board of the Andalusia Public Library for several years.

The family requests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Andalusia, the Boy Scout Hut c/o the First United Methodist Church, or the Andalusia Public Library.
