Karate students put on strong display in Albertville

Andalusia Isshinryu Karate students brought home 12 first-place finishes from the USYKA Albertville Open Karate tournament last weekend.

Competitors competed in weapons, forms and fighting divisions for their age and belt rank.

Allen Butler competed in the adult black belt divisions for the first time in his career and won two first places and the Adult Black Belt Kata & Weapons Grand Championship.

Dalton Spears and Konner Owens also had outstanding days, winning three first places each.

Additionally, every Andalusia student placed in the tournament.

Full tournament results are below:

• Konner Owens — first place in yellow belt weapons, kata and fighting;

• Kila Owens — first place in green belt kata and weapons, and third place in green belt fighting;

• Landon Caldwell — first place in green belt kata and fighting, and second place in green belt weapons;

• Dalton Spears — first place in brown belt weapons, kata and fighting;

• Taj Patel — third place in brown belt weapons and second place in brown belt kata;

• Rexanne Butler — second place in youth black belt kata and fighting, and third place in youth black belt weapons; and,

• Allen Butler — first place in men’s black belt weapons and kata and the adult black belt kata Great Champion.

All competitors are students of Mark Rudd at Andalusia Isshinryu Karate, located beside the USA Gym and Fitness Center.
