Pleasant Home’s football team and cheerleader squad won the first-ever Covington County Fair Tug-of-War contest at the Kiwanis Covington County Fair on Tuesday night.

All area high school football teams and cheerleading squads were invited to the competition, in which Andalusia, Straughn, Red Level and Pleasant Home participated.

The Lady Eagles beat Red Level once and Andalusia twice to claim the title.

In the first round of the cheerleaders’ competition, Andalusia and Straughn had a good battle going, but the Lady Bulldogs pulled away late to get the tape across the line.

SHS eliminated Red Level, but fell to Andalusia in the loser’s bracket finals to set up the winner’s bracket finals between AHS and PHS.

In the football side of things, Andalusia beat Red Level and Pleasant Home beat Straughn in the first round.

SHS then topped RLHS in the first round of the loser’s bracket.

PHS beat AHS in the winner’s bracket to advance to the finals. Andalusia beat Straughn in the loser’s bracket to set up another meet with the Eagles, who used a combined weight of 2,045 pounds to get the win.

Pleasant Home’s football and cheerleader squads each received $250 for winning the contest.
