BOE welcomes new member

The Andalusia Board of Education welcomed a new member Monday night when Walter Lee Wytch was sworn in.
Wytch, who ran unopposed, took the seat held for 12 years by Joe Nix, who chose not to seek reelection.
Dr. David McCalman also was sworn in for a second term.
In other business, the board:
• Accepted the retirement resignation of Patty Meyer, AES special education teacher, effective Jan. 1.
• Accepted the low bid of Birmingham Restaurant Supply for a tilt skillet.
• Approved an overnight trip for fifth grade students in the Talented and Gifted Program on April 8-10 to Huntsville, to participate in the Pathfinder Space Camp.
• Approved an overnight trip for third and fourth grade students in the Talented and Gifted Program on Feb. 19-20 for a sleep-in at the McWayne Science Center. They also will visit the Gayle Planetarium in Mongtomery and the Southern Museum of Flight in Birmingham for tours.
