The Straughn Lady Tigers had their season come to an end in the first round of the Elite 8 Wednesday, losing in three sets to Danville.

The Tigers had strong efforts from all their players, but it just wasn’t enough to overcome the hard-hitting Danville Hawks.

“They (Danville) are No.1 in the state for a reason,” said SHS head coach Daniel Rodgers.

Danville beat Straughn by scores of 25-17, 25-15 and 25-23.

Straughn’s Paige Taylor had three kills, two assists and two aces.

Jacie Williamson contributed three kills and Courtney Rogers had eight digs.

Danville’s Sydni Shelton led her team with 15 kills, two blocks and six digs; Kellee Stiles had eight kills and nine digs for the Hawks, while Charlee Anderson had 28 assists, three digs and five aces. Additionally, Alexis Snow had four digs, two assists and three aces.

“They have some very aggressive hitters and there were some shots they hit that you just can’t do anything with,” said Rodgers. “Our girls never quit and I’m very proud of them for that.”

The Tigers had their best season ever going 26-20, but fell just two games shy of the state title.

“We aren’t quite there yet, but we are going to get there,” said Rodgers.
