It’s only just begun

My first week as sports editor for the Star-News has been exciting to say the least. I had the amazing opportunity to cover two of our local high school volleyball teams at the AHSAA state tournament at  CrossPlex in Birmingham, and my goodness was it intense.

I’ve been to a few volleyball matches here and there, but never have I seen so many talented teams from Class 1A through 7A all playing in one arena.  The atmosphere was electric and I couldn’t help but get goosebumps when seeing the sheer joy and intensity that these girls played with.

I was extremely impressed with our two county teams (Pleasant Home Lady Eagles and the Straughn Lady Tigers) during the tournament. Both teams were full of heart and played with incredible energy.

The Lady Eagles and the Lady Tigers both lost to the teams that would go onto win the state title in their respective classifications.

I can honestly say I had a great time getting to watch the amazing girls of our county go toe-to-toe with the best teams in the state and give it everything they had. Heads held high girls you made us all proud.

I look forward to the opportunities to cover all other sports and teams in the county. I would also like to encourage everyone to submit story ideas and photographs to help me ensure that all Covington County teams get the best coverage possible.
