In the only local race that was contested, Sen. Jimmy Holley, R-Elba, soundly defeated Democratic challenger Larry Greenwood, 23,022 to 8,568 in a district that includes Covington, Coffee, Pike and part of Dale County.

Locally, Holley got 79 percent of the votes cast in that race, 6,242 to 1,584.

In Pike County, Holley received 5,255 votes to Greenwood’s 3,593.

In Coffee County, he got 8,107 to Greenwood’s 2,723.

In Dale County, the senator received 3,418 to his challenger’s 686.
