Outlaw Realty collecting cell phones for soldiers

Outlaw Realty is sponsoring a special drive through November and December to collect used cell phones for the country’s service men, women and veterans.

The real estate firm partnered with Cell Phones for Soldiers to collect newer or gently used cell phones last year, and was able to donate more than 200 cell phones from residents in this area.

“It is such a worthy cause,” Outlaw Realty agent Delo Waller said. “I think our soldiers deserve to be able to call their loved ones.”

Cell Phones for Soldiers is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing cost-free communication services to active-duty military members and veterans.

The organization was formed in 2004 and since then, more than 11.3 million cell phones have been collected for soldiers.

Outlaw Realty agents said they want to provide the phones during the holiday season.

“It is a great way to show our appreciation to our heroes who keep our nation safe,” Waller said.

Waller began partnering with Cell Phones for Soldiers in Louisiana, and said she sponsored the event in Andalusia last year to continue the effort.

“This was something I started last year, and it turned into something so large that I wanted to do it again,” Waller said.

The organization will accept any and all cell phones from any service provider, but newer, gently used cell phones are preferred.

Proceeds are still generated from the recycling of broken or damaged phones, and each donated device that is valued at $5 will come with 2.5 hours of free talk time provided by Cell Phones for Soldiers.

Phones can be dropped off at the Outlaw Realty office at 1803 East Three Notch, or can be picked up by calling 334-582-1300.
