Opp ready for Round 1

The Opp Bobcats are eager and excited to play the Lamar County Bulldogs Friday night in round one of the class 3A state playoffs.

The Bobcats are coming off a non-region loss to the Elba Tigers, and the Bulldogs are riding a one-game win streak coming into the playoffs, after beating Winfield last week.

“We had a good week of practice,” said Bobcats’ head coach Brent Hill. “The kids really bounced back and given great energy and great effort.”

The Bulldogs are a little bit bigger than the Bobcats, but the Bobcats have more speed, Hill said.

“It’s going to that age old match-up, speed versus size,” Hill said.

The Bobcats will look for quick scores from their offense. The Bulldogs have only averaged five passes a game, so they will just try to pound it and run the clock, Hill said.

“They will line up in a few different formations, but they are going to try to run the ball with veer left and veer right,” Hill said.

Hill said that his offense will still run mainly what they have been running all season, with the exception of a few added wrinkles and formations.

“We expect them to play us close and jam the box, but they haven’t shown it on film,” Hill said. “We still expect them to play us they way that Elba did, which was to jam the box, and make the young quarterback have to make a decision.”

The Bobcats and Bulldogs will kickoff at 7 p.m. Friday at Channell-Lee Stadium in Opp.
