Covington County will soon have a fulltime veteran service officer again.
The Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs is accepting applications for a veteran service officer through Nov. 28.
District manager Lynda Jenkins said the hiring will allow the VA to have the local office open full time, aside from training and authorized leave.
At present, an officer from a different county serves local veterans Mondays and Tuesdays from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. from on office in the county administration building.
Applicants must reside in and be registered to vote in Covington County, and must be an honorably discharged veteran with a minimum of 60 days active duty military service during a wartime period.
Minimum qualifications include two years of college with courses in social work or counseling; or office management experience. Computer skills also are necessary.
The starting salary is $31,488.
Veterans may call ADVA Headquarters at (334) 242-5077 to have an application mailed or emailed to them.
