Round 2 pits Bobcats against Red Tops

The Opp Bobcats (8-3) will travel to Slocomb Friday night to face the Slocomb Red Tops (7-2) for round 2 of the ASHAA state playoffs.

“They have a large offensive line, and the defensive line has some size and speed,” Opp head coach Brent Hill said.

Hill said that the Red Tops have some good play makers on offense in their running back and a receiver. Hill said that the Red Tops will try to control the clock with a lot of run, but they will pass it when necessary.

“It’s been a blessing to have Ty White back on defense for us,” Hill said. “He is a difference maker for us.”

Defensively, Hill said the Red Tops have some good speed on the line, and have a good linebacker.

“Our offensive line has kind of gone unnoticed this year, because they aren’t the biggest bunch, but they are a feisty bunch,” Hill said. “Raheem Bonam has really stepped up the past few weeks, and our young quarterback is really starting to play well.”

Hill said the Bobcats will stick with the same offensive plan that has been working so well for them. The Bobcats will lineup and take what the defense is giving them.

“What we do is based on numbers in the box, coverage and a few other things,” Hill said. “If they play us back, we will run it at them, but if they come up and stack the box we will throw it.”

Kickoff Friday night will be at 7 p.m. in Slocomb.
