Opp defeats Red Tops, to face Greenwave

The Opp Bobcats earned their first-ever third-round playoff berth with a 33-17 win over Slocomb’s Red Tops Friday night.

The game began slowly, with both teams having difficulty moving the ball in the first quarter.

Slocomb scored the first points of the game with a 26-yard field goal early in the second quarter. Opp responded with a touchdown with five minutes to go in the half when Ty’Keenan White scored from a yard out.

The scoring continued when Slocomb scored from two yards out to retake the lead, 10-6.

Opp grabbed the momentum going into the locker room when Reggie Thompson hit Greg House for a 40-yard strike with just 25 second quarter. Opp took a 14-10 lead at halftime.

Slocomb took back the momentum with a touchdown score on their first play on the second half to go back ahead 17-14.

The Bobcats responded on their next possession when Raheem Bonam scored from 10 yards out. The Bobcats extended their lead to a two-score game on a Ty’Keenan White four-yard run.

With four minutes remaining, Opp put the game away with a touchdown on a Hennis Washington one-yard run. After an interception by Greg House, the Bobcats ran out the clock to get the win 33-17 to advance to the third round.

Ty’Keenan White led the Bobcats with 78 yards on 17 carries. Reggie Thompson was 7 of 12 in the air for 92 yards. Greg House caught four passes for 69 yards.

Opp hosts Gordo next Friday night for third round. Gordo, now 12-0 for the season, defeated Pike County 21-20 in the second round.
