Ferrum College defensive lineman Montel Lee has been named Defensive Rookie of the Year by the USA South Athletic Conference. Lee’s honor headlines the league’s 2014 Football All-Conference Team. Lee is a freshman from Andalusia High School.
“I’m proud for Montel for his outstanding accomplishment. It could not happen to a finer young man. Montel has great work ethic and a passion for the game,” said Lee’s former high school coach Brian Seymore. “He plays the game full speed with relentless effort. I wish him continued success with all his future endeavors.”
Lee recorded 48 tackles this season, including 40 solo stops and 24 for loss. He made seven quarterback sacks, forced two fumbles and recovered a fumble. Lee was named to the All-Conference first team. Ferrum offensive lineman Bryan Smith was named to the All-Conference second team, while running back Dominique LesineĀ was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team. Ferrum finished 1-9 overall and 1-7 in the USA South this season under fourth-year head coach Dave Harper.
Lee’s seven sacks and 24 tackles for loss both led Ferrum.
“I feel really blessed to make first team All-Conference as a freshman, but I have a lot to get better with. I am not sastified,” Lee said.
