More youth needed for choir

An Andalusia youth minister has high hopes in bringing local youth together in a choir concert.

Jamal Curry, youth minister at Holy Tabernacle, established the first citywide youth choir as a way to bring community youth together, and the first event is set for this weekend.

“It gives the youth something to do,” Curry said. “I have 33 kids that are in it from all the local churches in Andalusia.”

Curry said youth from First Baptist Whatley Street, Holy Tabernacle, First Unity and St. Peter’s are already signed up to perform in this event, and he said he wants to bring in more.

“This is my first year, but I’m trying to get everybody together, black and white,” Curry said. “There is no specific race in it, just everyone together.”

He said he would like to make this a permanent group.

“Anything in other churches with youth, we’re going to try to involve ourselves with it,” he said.

The youth will be performing a concert and be joined by a youth group from Dothan.

“There will be a young group from Dothan coming down to perform also,” Curry said. “They’re called the Kingdoms Production, and they will sing, do appraisements and a comedy act.”

The first event for the citywide youth choir is set for Sat., Dec. 6 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Whatley Street.
