BEVERLY ANN TRICKLER

1210-Trickler-obit-webMs. Beverly Ann Trickler, 76, of Samson, left this world for a pain free and cancer free eternity early Sun. morning, Dec. 8, after a valiant battle with the disease. She was surrounded by loving family at the time of her peaceful passing.

Beverly attended the First Baptist Church of Samson. She was a devoted volunteer member of the Medical Center Enterprise Healthy Woman Advisory Council.

She is survived by her long time love, Joe Redmon; daughters, Toni Kaminski (Chris), Tami Sapp (Lewis) and Teri Ackerman; grandchildren, Christopher Kaminski (Megan), Jenifer Ezell, Leah Gunter, Jeffrey Benefield (Julie), Kimberly Garrard (Ben), Joshua Ackerman, Timothy Ackerman (Lexi) and Seth Benefield; and four great-grandchildren, Lucas Garrard, Evie Ackerman, Harper Garrard and Grayson Ackerman.

The family would like to express appreciation to Drs. Barnes and Adler, and the staff of Brookwood Medical Center, Gentiva Home Health and Medical Center Enterprise for their loving care.

Visitation will be today from 6-8 p.m. at Evans Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.

PAUL LEIGHTON BUSH

Mr. Paul Leighton Bush, 68, of Birmingham, formerly of Andalusia, passed away at the University of Alabama Birmingham.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Thurs., Dec. 11, at Sanford Baptist Church cemetery. A eulogy will be given by Kym Keahey.

Survivors include sons, Steve Bush and John Paul Bush, all of Birmingham; daughter, Stephanie Young of Birmingham; and four grandchildren.

Mr. Bush was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Bush.

 

HAZEL H. RAWLS

Mrs. Hazel H. Rawls, 100, of the Goodhope community, died Mon., Dec. 8, 2014, at her residence.

Funeral services will be Fri., Dec. 12, at 10 a.m. from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Eugene Meadows officiating. Interment will follow in Goodhope Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thurs., Dec. 11, from 5 to 8 p.m.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Rawls; parents, John Holland and Mae Brook Hogg; son, James Donald Rawls Sr.; grandson, James Donald Rawls Jr.; siblings, Donald Ray Hogg, W.J. Hogg, John Hogg, Bruzell Hogg, Louise H. Semmes and Sara H. Spencer; and a niece, Brenda Semmes Wood.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Carol Rawls of Dozier; granddaughter, Deann (Rhon) Jones of Montgomery; great-grandchildren, Will and Mary Baker, Jack and Luke Jones and Taylor and Katie Rawls; stepgranddaughter, Jennifer “Nikki” Holley of New Orleans; sisters-in-law, Frances Hogg of Dozier and Betty Hogg of Brent; and many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are nephews Jim Hogg, Johnny Hogg, Sammy Hogg, Ray Hogg, Tommy Hogg, Tony Spencer, Bryant Wood and Russ Wood. Honorary pallbearers include Rhon Jones, Will Jones, Taylor Rawls, Morgan Rodgers and Jimmy Rodgers.

She was born in Dozier on Sept.15, 1914. At 16 years old, she began her teaching career at County Line School in Crenshaw County where she walked to her teaching job. After graduating from high school, she attended Troy Teachers’ College and Auburn University. She taught at Vigor High School in Mobile, and then returned to Dozier High School and taught for 40 years. She had a genuine love and concern for each student she taught.

She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa and the Crenshaw County Retired Teachers Association.

She was a long-time member of Searight Baptist Church.

Mrs. Letha Adams Barrow, 89, of Andalusia, passed away Sun., Dec. 7, 2014, in the Andalusia Manor.

Funeral services will be today at 2 p.m., from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Morgan and the Rev. Ed Ganus officiating. Interment in Fairmount Cemetery.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m. today at Foreman Funeral Home.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Carolyn Barrow of Andalusia; her daughter, Susan Kay Henderson of Andalusia; her grandchildren, John Henderson, Patrick Barrow, Jason Barrow and Jody Barrow; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold Adams of Mobile; two sisters, Myra Condren of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., and Sara Asarisi of Pensacola, Fla.

Mrs. Mary Evelyn Savage Scott, 73, of Andalusia, passed away Sun., Dec. 7, 2014, in the Andalusia hospital.

Funeral services will be today at 3:30 p.m., from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Glenn Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before services.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Paul Steven and Felicia Savage and Stanley and Colleen Savage, all of Andalusia; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Clodine Archie of Andalusia; and several nieces.

Mrs. Charlene K. Erickson, 65, of Andalusia, passed away Sun., Dec. 7, 2014, at Opp Health and Rehab.

Funeral services will be today at 11 a.m., at Scripture of Truth Baptist Church with the Rev. Carroll Parker officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. today at Foreman Funeral Home.

Survivors include her husband, Louis J. Erickson of Andalusia; her daughters and son-in-law, Rebecca and Tommy Hutto of Andalusia, Roxanne Loden of Popularville, Miss., and Shawn Strong of Anchorage, Alaska; two sons and daughter-in-law, Steven Strong of Rogers, Neb., and William and Brenda Loden Jr. of Gulfport, Miss.; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Geraldine Kelley Taylor, 84, of Andalusia, passed away Sat., Dec. 6, 2014, in the Florala nursing facility.

Funeral services were Tues., Dec. 9, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Lindal and Robert Smith of Dozier and Sandra and Billy Henley of Wing; her son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Tammie Taylor of Loango; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Taylor.

EDWIN DURWOOD BASS

Mr. Edwin Durwood Bass, 88, of Andalusia, passed away Sat., Dec. 6, 2014, at his residence.

Mr. Bass was a WWII veteran and worked for 30 years for the U.S. Postal Service. He was an active member of Southside Baptist Church, where he served the congregation as one of the deacons.

Funeral services were Tues., Nov. 9 at Southside Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Yopp officiating. Interment followed in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margaret Bass; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Reggie Powell of Andalusia and Sue and Gary McCurley of Hartwell, Ga.; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his son, Eddie Bass.

Pallbearers were Donald Maddox, Lowe Dillard, John Thomas, Jamey Hawkins, Jeffery Hawkins and Jim Yant. Honorary pallbearers were the deacons and members of the Adult Men’s #3 Sunday School Class of Southside Baptist Church.

GILMER N. “BOOTS” WALKER

Mr. Gilmer N. “Boots” Walker, 81, of Red Level, passed away Sat., Dec. 6, 2014, at his residence.

Funeral services were Tues., Dec. 9, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Walker and the Rev. Ertis Lee officiating. Interment followed in Fairmount Cemetery.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Charlie Chance, of Red Level; one son, Kenneth Walker, of Red Level; two sisters-in-law, Loyette Walker of Red Level and Francis Walker of Cantonment, Fla.; and special family friends, Memory Chance and Chase Burkett.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Gilmer and Lena Walker; his wife, Vera Walker; two grandchildren, Andrew Niles Straughn and Amber Nicole Straughn; brothers, Charles Walker and his wife, Keturah, James Walker, and Hayward Walker; and sister, Operea Mitchell and her husband, John.

WILLIAM C. “BILL” MEEKS

Mr. William C. “Bill” Meeks, 83, of Andalusia, passed away Sat., Dec.6, 2014, at his residence.

Funeral services were Tues., Dec. 9, at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Robert Madsen and the Rev. Tim Trent officiating. Interment followed in Magnolia Cemetery.

Mr. Meeks owned Covington Stores until its closing in 1977. In 1991, Mr. Meeks retired as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army National Guard with 42 years of service. After his retirement, Mr. Meeks enjoyed playing golf, traveling, particularly in Germany, and he loved Auburn football.

Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Sylvia Hartzog Meeks of Andalusia; his daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Jimmy Davis of Dothan and Becky and Strud Young of Laurel Hill, Fla.; a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Joni H. and Tommy J. Taylor of Jacksonville, Fla.; stepson and daughter-in-law, Gary and Kathy Hartzog of Auburn; two grandchildren, Ben Davis and Bill Davis; stepgrandchildren, Marshall Hartzog and Joshua Taylor; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and Jo Meeks of Montgomery and Robert and Ann Meeks of Auburn; and a sister in law, Mrs. Dot Brooks of Andalusia.

Mr. Meeks was preceded in death by his first wife, Joy Dunn Meeks.

Pallbearers were Ben Davis, Bill Davis, Gary Hartzog, Marshall Hartzog, Tommy Taylor and Joshua Taylor. Honorary pallbearer were Steve Ballard.
