More than 20 phones were donated by area residents to help with a Cell Phones for Soldiers fundraiser led by Outlaw Realty, and more are being taken.

Owner MaryAlyce Outlaw transported the phones to a drop off point in Florida this week, and she said the community really showed out.

“We really appreciate all the support from the community,” Outlaw said. “But don’t throw out your old cell phones, bring them to Outlaw Realty.”

Outlaw said the organization continues to take phones throughout the year, not just during the holidays.

Cell Phones for Soldiers is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing cost-free communication services to active-duty military members and veterans.

The organization will accept any and all cell phones from any service provider, but newer, gently used cell phones are preferred.

Proceeds are still generated from the recycling of broken or damaged phones, and each donated device that is valued at $5 will come with 2.5 hours of free talk time provided by Cell Phones for Soldiers.

Phones can be dropped off at the Outlaw Realty office at 1803 East Three Notch, or can be picked up by calling 334-582-1300.
