Darby’s burglarized 5th time

The process is getting too familiar.
The home phone rings at strange times, alerting David and Laura Darby that there’s an intruder in one of their stores.
It happened again Thursday, marking the fifth time since February that one of the two pharmacies has been burglarized.
Andalusia Police Chief Paul Hudson said the burglars broke a window and left with an undisclosed amount of prescription drugs.
Earlier this year, four people were arrested after Fred’s Pharmacy was burglarized twice.
Hudson said an Opp pharmacy was burglarized at about the same time that Fred’s was hit here, and that burglars were actually caught in an Evergreen pharmacy.
Hudson said the local burglaries don’t appear to be tied to others.
Darby, however, thinks the burglaries are a sign of how serious the local pill problem is.
“We see it every day,” he said.
“In 32 years, this never happened to me before this year,” Darby said. “And before we opened our pharmacy, I managed 25 Harco locations. None of them were burglarized.”
He also believes that the burglars are local, and that someone, somewhere, knows what is happening.
“I hope they’ll talk to the police,” he said.
Hudson said anyone with information about the burglaries should contact the Andalusia Police Department at 222-1155 and ask to speak with an investigator.
