Rollin Kinsaul goes up for a layup in Straughn’s win over T.R. Miller

The Straughn Tigers’ varsity boys (8-2) defeated the T.R. Miller Tigers 62-48 Tuesday night in Straughn.

 

Brice Scott and Marshall Farley got Straughn out front early with big 3-pointers. Tucker Lawless, Rollin Kinsaul and Austin Bozeman had 2 points each to give Straughn a 14-5 advantage after the first period.

 

Kinsaul began to dial it in, in the second period with 7 points. Kinsaul had a 3-pointer, and went 2-for-3 from the free throw line. At halftime, Straughn was in control 31-19.

 

In the third period, Kinsaul was a sharpshooter, knocking down two long-range 3-pointers. Kinsaul also went 2-for-2 from the free throw line. Lawless and Johnathan Driver each hit a 3-pointer, and Straughn led 46-34 after three periods.

 

Straughn used a strong finish to defeat Miller 62-48. Farley and Lawless had 5 points each in the final period. Both players got 3-point plays the old-fashioned way. Scott also pitched in 4 points to help Straughn secure the victory.

 

Chardian Johnson led Miller with 27 points, and Kellyn Winn finished with 14 points.

 

Kinsaul led Straughn with 17 points, and Farley added 15 points.

 

“We played well in spurts. Early we played well then we went in neutral,” Straughn head coach Rusty Andrews said. “In the third we came out slow. I haven’t figured out the right combo out of halftime. Overall, we played with effort. We just need to play defense a little better.”
