More than 100 characters are needed to make this year’s “Cookies with Characters” event a success,” organizers said Monday.

Organizer Brooke Clark said tryouts for the show will be Sat., Jan. 10, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m., and on Tues., Jan. 13, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tryouts will be held at the Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce.

“There are over 100-plus spots for characters to audition for,” Clark said. “Costumes will be provided.”

Organizer Kylie Spears said this year’s event will be the biggest one yet.

“With two shows, we need more than a 100 kids,” she said. “We split the show. One set of kids do the show and the other set does the autographs.”

Spears said in years past, the auditions have been great and that she sees a lot of the same people come back to volunteer their time.

“The biggest change is that we are holding tryouts at the Chamber of Commerce this year,” she said. “Also, kids who volunteer have to be available all day the day of Cookies with Characters.”

New characters will include Donatello, Raphael, Michelangelo and Leonardo from the “Ninja Turtles,” Maleficent, Olaf from “Frozen,” Paddington Bear and the Genie from “Aladdin.”

Those interested in auditioning must be at least in the eighth grade. The audition is open to males and females.

This year’s event will be held Feb. 28, with two shows.

Show times will be from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. for the silly show, and from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., for the glow show, at the Kiwanis Community Center.

Gates will open at noon and at 4 p.m.

Admission is $5 per person, which includes cookies, show and autographs.

Tickets are available at Harold’s or at the gate the day of the event.

The event is held as the biggest fundraiser of the year for Meredith’s Miracles, a local non-profit that helps families of sick children with non-medical related costs.
