Project SHARE offers energy assistance

The South Alabama chapter of the American Red Cross will begin accepting applications from Covington County resident on Jan. 12, 2015, for Project SHARE, the energy assistance program for low-income elderly or disabled individuals.

To qualify for assistance, the family income must be within certain guidelines depending on the size of the household. In addition, the head of the household must meet one of the following eligibility criteria:

• Be 62 years old or older.

• Receive a disability check.

Residents of Covington County may schedule an appointment by calling the Project SHARE office at 334-428-2680.

Applicants may call to schedule appointments Jan. 12, 2015, through Jan. 16, 2015, between 9 a.m. and noon.

The first appointment will be on Jan. 19, 2015 at 8:30 a.m., and the last appointment will be on Jan. 21, 2015, at 3:50 p.m.

Applications will be available for pickup on Thus., Jan. 8, 2015, at the Covington County Administration Building reception area and the Red Cross office located at 234 Hillcrest Drive, Andalusia.

Each client will need:

• A completed application

• Original or copy of current utility bill with a balance due

• Identification

• Proof of income for 2014-15 (Social Security or Disability Statement of Eligibility)

• Third party verification form (if another person needs to come to the appointment for the client).

Project SHARE is funded through the voluntary pledges made by customers of participating energy suppliers. Assistance is geared toward the need of the client rather than entitlement.
