It’s cookie time! Girl Scouts taking orders

Hungry for some Thin Mints or Peanut Butter Patties?

The local Girl Scouts are gearing up for their annual cookie sale.

Troop 9044, which consists of 10 girls, Charlie Mae Qualls and Kenna Marczewski, Daisys; Briley Henry and Harli Wiggins, Brownies; six juniors Nora Rose Hollinghead, Lily Clark, Samantha Adkins, Madi Sowell, Shelby Barbaree and Finley Scott.

“The girls had a very successful cookie season last year,” said Amy Hollinghead, troop leader. “So, this year, they are anxious to exceed last year’s sales.”

The 2015 lineup includes favorites, such as Shortbread, Cranberry Citrus Crisps, Thin Mints, Caramel deLites, Peanut Butter Patties, Peanut Butter Sandwiches, Lemonades, Thanks-A-Lots and new gluten-free, Trios.

“Girl Scouts are participating in a pilot program to bring a Gluten-Free Girl Scout Cookie to the market,” Hollinghead said. “They are made with certified gluten-free whole grain oats, real peanut butter, and chocolate chips.”

The sale will begin with Girl Scouts taking orders from family and friends.

Beginning Jan. 17, Girl Scouts will be found at various businesses and shopping centers.

Hollinghead said specific times and locations are still being finalized.

Cost of cookies are $3.50 per box, except for Trios, which are $5. Those who purchase five or more boxes get entered for a chance to win Girl Scout Cookies for a year.

“Even if folks don’t eat Girl Scout cookies, they can still help by donating the cost of a box of cookies to our Operation Cookie Drop,” she said. “It is a program designed to donate cookies to designated military organizations, such as deployed military and individuals in veterans’ hospitals.”
