B-team Tigers hold off Bobcats

The Straughn Tigers B-team was put to a test by the Opp Bobcats Saturday in Opp, but was able to defeat the Bobcats 51-36.

 

The Tigers jumped out to a 19-8 lead in the first period, thanks to strong shooting by Hank Peeples. Peeples had 8 points in the first period, including a pair of long-range 3-pointers. Daylan Grant added 3 points for the Tigers in the first. Tye Lindsey kept the Bobcats in it with 3 points in the first frame.

 

The Tigers had trouble scoring in the second period, but still led 26-18 at halftime. James Dean led the Tigers with 3 points in the second. Lindsey continued to have the hot hand for the Bobcats, and sank two 3-pointers to trim the Tigers led to eight.

 

The Tigers came out from halftime on a mission, and stretched their lead to 39-25 heading into the final period. Grant added 5 points for the Tigers in the third period, and Ethan Wilson chipped in 4 points. Evan King got hot for the Bobcats, and dropped 7 points in the third.

 

Kevin Heiken and the Tigers shut the door on the Bobcats in the final period for a 51-36 victory. Heiken put in 7 points for the Tigers, and Peeples added another 3-pointer in the fourth period. Juan Bell and King had 4 points each for the Bobcats in the period.

 

King led the Bobcats with 15 points, and Lindsey added 9 points on the night.

 

Peeples led the Tigers with 11 points, and Grant finished the contest with a solid 10 points.
