Time is drawing near to make sure everyone gets a special Valentine’s Day “kiss,” as Meredith’s Miracles prepares for its annual Sundae and Sweet Shoppe fundraiser.

To help the event go off without a hitch, event organizer Emily Yehling said volunteers are needed to help make sundaes starting this week.

“We will be at 10 West Court Square,” she said. “We will be starting to make our signature candy sundaes, and we need as many people as possible to help.”

Yehling said there are lots of things volunteers can do from washing vases to putting candies down in the jars to helping with ribbons and more.

Sundaes typically include Hershey Kisses, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Tootsie Rolls, bubble gum and peppermint.

Sugar-free, hard candy selections are available upon request.

New this year, is a special edition, 10th anniversary candy sundae made with Lindt truffles will be available for $25.

“We’re going to be doing a couple special things for the 10th anniversary,” Yehling said. “We’ll be open for business and starting to sell on Feb. 2. We generally only deliver to businesses on Valentine’s Day, but because it falls on a Saturday, we’ll be delivering on Friday and Saturday.”

Yehling said plans are to work on sundaes Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., and on Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon.

The store will open for business Mon., Feb. 2, through Feb. 14.

This will be the ninth straight year of sundae sales for the charity created in honor of Meredith McGlamory, daughter of Janna Marsh and Russell McGlamory, who passed away from childhood cancer in 2003.

The charity assists parents who have to leave the area to get specialty medical care for their children by helping with non-medical related expenses, such as gas, lodging and food for families living within a 60-mile radius of Andalusia.

“We helped 103 families in 2014, and raised more than $63,000 in just donations and people coming to our fundraisers,” Yehling said. “This community just amazes me.”
