Andalusia City Schools is working to secure a second Pre-K class for the next school year.

Special education coordinator Sonja Hines, who wrote the grant for the first class, which opened last fall, said Tuesday night they have sent a letter of intent to hopefully get the second class.

“We will continue the one that we have,” she said. “Registration is going on now, and the more interest we can show the better chance we have of getting the second class.”

Board member David Bryant asked if there was a possibility of one day having three or four classes, and Hines said that was definitely the goal.

Those interested in applying to the program can do so now.

All eligible applicants will be placed into a public lottery drawing to be held the first week of May.

The first 18 names drawn will establish the class, and all others will be placed on the waiting list.

To be considered for the Pre-K program, a student must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2015.

Additionally, the guardian and students must live within the Andalusia City School district.

Registration forms are available at the Andalusia City Board of Education at 122 Sixth Avenue, Andalusia, AL; Or visit the system website at www.andalusiacityschools.net to download forms.
