March is approaching quickly and runners in the Andalusia area will be happy to hear about the various races being offered.

First up, the Junior Service League of Andalusia will host their first ever Freaky Friday 5K Glow Run/Walk on Fri., March 13.

Registration forms for the Freaky Friday run are available on the Junior Service League of Andalusia Facebook page and the Andalusia Star-News website. Forms may also be picked up Triple-H, CCB and SIB in Andalusia. Club members will also have forms avaible.  Entry fees are $25 if you pre-register, or $30 the day of the race. This is a fun event, and will not be a timed race.

Registration on race day will begin at 5:30 p.m., and the race will start at 7:30 p.m. The race will begin in front of Andalusia City Hall.

Everyone is encouraged to have fun dressing up, but to do so appropriately for a family event.

All participants must wear race bibs, and neon colored shirts at all times during the race.

Strollers are welcome, but must have reflective tape on them.

The event is in memory of the late Dr. Angelo Agro. Half of the proceeds will go to the National Lung Transplant Association and the other half will go back to our community.

The Junior Service League of Andalusia choose do it in memory of Dr. Angelo Agro, because his wife, C.J., is a long time member of the club.

The Junior Service League is hoping for a successful event, and to continue it each year benefiting a different organization.

“We have over 70 racers registered right now,” club member Sabrina Cobb said. “Our goal is to have 100 racers this year.”

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project and the Covington County Relay for Life team.

The First Presbyterian Church of Andalusia will host its Love Thy Neighbor 8K on March 21, to help raise money for the Love Thy Neighbor Meal program.

The program provides free meals twice a month to anyone that chooses to come.

Organizers said that the program currently feeds between 75 to 100 people each meal.

The goal of the program is to feed “hungry souls”, organizers said.

Registration forms may be picked up from the Presbyterian Church. To be guaranteed a shirt you must be registered by March 2. Registration fees are $25 for the 8K, and there will also be a 1-mile fun walk available for $10.
