Opp hires Enterprise attorney

The city of Opp on Monday night hired a new city attorney.

Former City Attorney Tom Albritton was recently named executive director of the Alabama Ethics Commission.

The city voted 4-1 to replace Albritton with Enterprise attorney Rainer Cotter, who is a partner in Marsh, Cotter & Stewart LLP.

District 2 Councilman T.D. Morgan voted against the hire.

“I voted against it because Mr. Cotter is not out of Covington County,” he said. “I think it’s very important that we use our city money locally, when possible.”

Cotter earned his law degree from Cumberland School of Law.

He is a member of the Coffee County and American Bar Associations, Alabama State Bar, and Alabama Defense Lawyers Association, among other organizations.
