The Opp City Board of Education approved the school calendar for 2015-2016 at its meeting on Tuesday night.

Specific dates from the calendar follow:

Aug. 4-7 — Teacher in-service

Aug. 10 — First day of school

Nov. 23-27 — Thanksgiving Holidays

Dec. 17 — End of first semester

Dec. 21-Jan. 1 — Christmas Holidays

Jan. 18: MLK Day

Feb. 15 – President’s Day

March 10 — End of third nine weeks

March 28-April 1 — Spring Break Holidays

April 29 — Spring Holiday

May 26 — Graduation/Last Day of School

In other business, the board:

• heard a presentation of the fiscal year 2014 financial audit from Brian Free with Carr, Riggs & Ingram. Free said the school system received an unmodified opinion and that there were no internal control findings or compliance issues;

• approved the February financial statement; and,

• approved the retirement of Cathy Mikel as teacher Opp Elementary School, resignation of Erica Gholson as teacher at Opp High School, resignation of Kerri Young as cheer sponsor at Opp Middle School, a contract for services for Mike Dubose for athletic services, a leave request for Young for family and medical leave and Lori Edgar as substitute teacher.
