Tigers top JV Bobcats

Straughn varsity baseball knocked off Opp’s junior varsity team 7-2 Monday in Opp’s spring break tournament.

 

Cody Richburg started on the mound for the young Bobcats, and held the older Tigers off the board until the bottom of the third.

 

Riley Eiland drove in Brock Hammett for the first run of the contest, and Ethan Wilson scored on a balk to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third.

 

SHS added a third run in the bottom of the fifth when Barrett Bush drove in Hank Peeples with a two-out triple.

 

In the bottom of the sixth, the Tigers broke the game wide open.

 

Wilson ripped an RBI triple that plated Hammett from first, and then Wilson scored on a passed ball.

 

Ty Ballard singled home Shane Jones to give the Tigers a 6-0 lead, and Peeples drove in the Tigers final run of the game a few batters later.

 

The Bobcats broke onto the scoreboard in the top of the seventh when Evan King hit a sacrifice fly that allowed Ethan Baker to score.

 

Brett James drove in Dillon Dee with a single for the Bobcats’ final run of the contest.

 

Ballard went 3-for-4 at the plate with one RBI for the Tigers.

 

Hammett pitched 5.1 innings to pick up the win for the Tigers.

 

James led the Bobcats going 1-for-4 with one RBI.
