Mark McIntyre of McIntyre Properties couldn’t pass up the opportunity to name his newest real estate development after his son, Aubrey Mack.

Aubreyland, Andalusia’s newest subdivision, is located right across from the Andalusia Elementary School.

McIntyre, who has been in real estate development for 29 years, said the subdivision is going to have a “two-phase development.”

“Phase 1 will start with eight lots, then we’ll continue with 14 more on phase 2,” McIntyre said.

Once a lot is purchased, construction on a house needs to start within a 12-month period, McIntyre said.

“I’m very excited,” he said. “We’re already under construction on the first home.”

What made McIntyre purchase the property for a subdivision was its proximity to many different things in the city.

“I took several things into consideration,” he said. “No. 1 was the proximity to the hospital. That was my main focus. A lot of seniors are purchasing new homes.

“The other thing I was considering was the fact that it was next to the elementary school, and close to the nursing home and assisted living facility,” he said. “Some people like to be close to their loved ones.”

Other factors that were considered was that it was going to be well lit, close to a maintained highway, close to grocery stores and close to the social security building, playgrounds and ball parks, McIntyre said.

Anybody can purchase a lot in the subdivision, McIntyre said.

“They’re for anybody, and we’ll be building for young couples, too,” he said. “The situation we are in there is that we’re going o have a controlled environment. I want our homes to flow.

“We want to approve someone’s plans who builds in there, and we would expect if you purchase a lot from us, we expect you to start construction within a 12-month period.”

McIntyre said the exterior will be finished with flower beds near the entrance in the next few weeks.
