The Opp Lady Bobcats secured a spot in the Class 3A, Area 2 tournament with a clean sweep of Hillcrest on Thursday.

In game one, freshman pitcher Gracie Kidd dominated on the mound for the Lady Bobcats, and threw a no-hit shutout in the 22-0 win over the Lady Jaguars.

Maggie Short, Bailey Boyd, Morgan Johnson and Morgan Pierce led the Lady Bobcats’ offensive outburst in the game one win.

Kayley Taylor got the start on the mound in game two’s 16-2 win for the Lady Bobcats, and threw three shutout innings before Pierce came in to finish off the Lady Jaguars.

Abby Cox, Jewel Robinson, Laura Lee Short, Hannah and Emily Wismer paced the Lady Bobcats’ hitters in the second game.

The Lady Bobcats improve to 14-8 for the season and are now 3-1 in area play.

OHS and T.R. Miller will now flip a coin to determine the location of the area tournament.

“We have a great group of freshman and sophomores who are such a pleasure to coach,” Lady Bobcats’ head coach Jimmy Reeves said. “Our juniors and seniors have prom this weekend so the underclassmen had to take up the slack, and they did a great job. Coach Gandy at Hillcrest has developed a good team, but we had too much speed for them. Gracie Kidd has pitched will all year. We are looking forward to some great years from her. It is fun to watch these young ones get better.”
