Andalusia assistant football coach Matt Johnson has taken a new coaching job at Upson Lee in Thomaston, Ga. so that his family can be closer to home.
Johnson joined the Bulldog family in 2010 as a linebacker coach, and has helped lead AHS to several successful seasons during his tenure.
“It is bittersweet,” Johnson said. “We love Andalusia, and I have loved working with Coach (Trent) Taylor. We have created a strong bond with each other in just this short amount of time. I would love for he and I to have a season together, but this opportunity was too good to pass up. It is a little bit closer to home for us.”
Although he is excited about the new opportunity, Johnson acknowledged that it wasn’t exactly an easy decision to make.
“It’s tough,” Johnson said. “I love these kids here, and we love Andalusia.”
Johnson will be joining the Upson Lee staff as the new assistant head coach.
