Opp Public Library is sponsoring a book signing for Michelle Goosby’s new book, “It Ain’t Over Till the Math Lady Sings,” today from 12:30-3:30 p.m.

Goosby, an Enterprise native, has been teaching math at LBWCC in Opp for some 19 years.

“I love poetry,” Goosby said. “I think with both sides of my brain. Math and English are favorites of mine. Teaching mathematics was a pretty easy thing for me to do. I love math. I like playing with the numbers.”

Goosby said she decided to start writing poetry years ago.

She went to a Mathematical Council conference for math teachers in Birmingham in 2005, and attended a math poetry workshop.

The workshop inspired her to continue writing her poetry.

Goosby expanded her collection and after another conference, she decided to put her collection in the book.

Goosby said the book is filled with math problems, riddles and enigmas, to name a few.

“I just enjoy doing that kind of thing,” she said. “I was exposed to poetry in grade school. My mother used to sing nursery rhymes. That stayed with me during my entire life. It’s something that’s innate.”

Trafford Publishing published Goosby’s book last year, and the original plan was to have the signing in December.

However, Goosby broke her arm and had to push back the date.

Goosby said her book is for sale online at Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Trafford.

“It was time consuming, but I enjoyed the labor,” she said.
