HEADLAND — In a rematch against Headland for the Class 4A, Area 2 championship, the Lady Tigers fell 9-3 to the Lady Rams Thursday in Headland.

The Lady Rams went up 3-0 in the bottom of the first inning, and added five more runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 8-0 lead.

Molly Stewart put the Lady Tigers on the board in the top of the sixth inning with solo home run to straight-away center. Colbie Adams made the score 8-2 with a sacrifice fly, and Hayden Willis drove in Kristen Peavey with a single in the top of the sixth.

The Rams added one run in the bottom of the sixth, and sat the Lady Tigers down in order in the top of the seventh to clinch the area championship.

“We played good on defense this morning,” Lady Tigers’ head coach Kenny Skipper said. “When our bats come around we can actually put some runs up. We had some good hits throughout the day, but we have to get more consistent at the plate. We are so close to being a very good team. We just have to start hitting the ball better, but the girls did what they needed to do to move on to the next round. Now, we will get ready for Gulf Shores.”

Even with the runner up finish, the Lady Tigers advance to the South Regional in Gulf Shores, where action continues on Thurs., May 7.

In other action, Straughn fell to Headland in the second round of the tournament, but rallied from the losers’ bracket for a rematch with the Lady Rams in the championship game.

SHS knocked off Ashford 3-1 in the first round of the tournament. Molly Stewart was 1-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs for the Lady Tigers.

Paige Taylor went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and Sarah Langford drove in one run for the Lady Tigers in the win.

The Lady Tigers advanced to the championship game with a 10-0 beat down against country-rival Andalusia.

Kristen Peavey was on fire at the plate in the game against the Lady Bulldogs, finishing with three RBIs.

Peavey drove in Katelyn Kinsaul for the Lady Tigers’ first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning.

Colbie Adams put the Lady Tigers up 2-0 when she drove in Stewart with a single in the bottom of the first.

Peavey did more damage in the bottom of the third inning after sending a ball into orbit for a two-run home run, her fourth on the year.

The Lady Tigers’ ended the game in the bottom of the fifth after plating six runs to beat the Lady Bulldogs by the mercy rule.

Hayden Willis drove in two runs with a double. Taylor and Brentley Armstrong each drove in one run in the inning, and Kinsaul ended the game with a two-run single.
