At first blush, the photograph on Page 1 looks like an interesting photograph of teenagers. But look closer, in both the foreground and background, and you’ll get an idea of what the landscape looked like at the Electronic Recycling Day held yesterday.

There were televisions, computer monitors, computers, scanners, cameras, wires – you name it, and it was there – everywhere!

The City of Andalusia, AHS Key Club, Alabama Clean Water Partnership and C E & E Solutions sponsored the event.. The purpose was two-fold: Keeping the items out of the landfill, and repurposing the materials from which they were made. Plastics, glass, gold, silver, copper and other materials are recycled.

It was great to see such a great turnout, and to know that all of those goods will be reused in some way.

Now, let’s spread the word about that recycling we do every week here in Andalusia – you know, when the green bags are picked up at your curb for free. Approximately 30 percent of local residents participate. If there are no green bags in your neighborhood on garbage day, encourage your neighbors to get a green bag.
