Straughn senior Brooks Rabren has a three-stroke lead heading into the final round of the AHSAA 4A golf state championship in Mobile, after shooting 5-under-par (66) on day one.

Rabren played solid all day, and four birdies on the back nine pushed him out front by three strokes at the end of the first round.

After starting with four straight pars, Rabren got a birdie on the first par-five of the day. It wouldn’t be his last.

Four pars followed the birdie put Rabren at 1-under-par for the front nine.

Rabren kicked it into high gear on the back nine, and began playing like someone who was looking to bring home the state championship.

A birdie on the par-five 10th hole started off the back nine for Rabren, who then followed with par, birdie, par and birdie over the next four holes.

Three straight pars put Rabren at 4-under-par with just the par-5 18th left to play.

Rabren birdied 18 to put him a 5-under, and a three-shot lead after the first day.

Rabren birdied five holes, including each of the three par-fives.

Rabren also finished the round with no bogeys.

Tee-off time for Rabren will be at 7 a.m., today.
