Thanks for the memories

What an honor it was for me to get a chance to watch some very talented young ladies from our community compete against the top teams in the state in the 2015 AHSAA Softball State Tournament in Montgomery.

I had a great time watching the Pleasant Home Lady Eagles and the Opp Lady Bobcats go up against some great teams, and both proved they belonged in that elite group.

While the tournament didn’t end the way either team would have liked it to, those girls should hold their heads up high, because just to get into the tournament is an outstanding accomplishment.

Only eight teams from each classification make it to the state tournament in Montgomery.

There were many exciting games in during the tournament, but one that really sticks out was Pleasant Home’s comeback victory in the bottom of the seventh to eliminate the South Lamar Lady Stallions on Thursday.

The Lady Eagles used a two-run home run, and solo home run to knock out the Lady Stallions in walk-off fashion.

Coming into the game, the Lady Eagles had only hit one home run during the entire season.

The intensity and excitement was incredible, and one of the most exciting wins I’ve ever watched.

Opp’s win over Oakman was another great game to watch, and it featured one of the best pitching duels in the tournament.

The Lady Bobcats’ Anna Harrelson and Courtney Chatham combined for a two-hit shutout of the Lady Wildcats in the 1-0 win.

Both Pleasant Home and Opp played with such heart and intensity that they should be proud of their incredible accomplishment.

Thanks for the memories.
