MYRTLE SPEED BUITT

Myrtle Speed Buitt, 92, of Andalusia, died May 19, 2015. Myrtle was born to Luther Monroe Speed and Lillie Estelle Speed in McComb, Miss., on July 16, 1922, and was the third of 16 children. By nature of this rank, she helped raise her siblings and was always a helper and caretaker. She valued her family, and for many years returned to attend the large family reunions each summer in Mississippi.

Myrtle graduated from high school in Magnolia, Miss., and went on to graduate from business school at Saint Mary’s of the Pines. Born of the generation where it was uncommon for women to work outside the home, she had a full life as wife and mother of five children, as well as a business career. Her employment began with a W.P.A. office job, and marriage to James Buitt. Brookley Air Force Base in Mobile was next and she ended her career in Austin, Texas, with the I.R.S. In addition to being an avid reader, Myrtle found time to sew and make clothes for her children and grandchildren.

Upon retirement, Myrtle moved to Andalusia near her daughter, Judy Bryant, a kindergarten teacher, and volunteered in the school for 15 years.

Myrtle spent her lifetime loving and caring for her children, grandchildren and friends. Surviving are her daughter, Judith (William) Bryant of Andalusia; sons, David Jerome Buitt of Andalusia and James Stephen (Mary) Buitt of Elizabeth, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and five siblings. Preceding her in death were two daughters, Janis Elizabeth Fix and Donna Janeen Felch.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today, Sat., May 23, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Presbyterian Church or the Presbyterian Children’s Home, P.O. Drawer 577, Talladega, AL 35161.

ALLYN HAMNER BROWN

Mrs. Allyn Hamner Brown went to be with the Lord on Wed., May 20, 2015.

Funeral services were held on Fri., May 22, 2015, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.

She is the former Allyn Stewart Hamner of Andalusia, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Samuel Columbus Hamner. She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, James Raymond “Jimmy” Brown.

Allyn is survived by her daughters, Janie Webb, Virginia Brown and Julia Ashdown; grandchildren, Jimmy Snow, Elizabeth Bryant, Jake Taylor Ashdown and Emily Ashdown; and great-granddaughters, Ava Grace and Maleah Bryant.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory to either Warrington United Methodist Church, 301 E. Winthrop Ave., Pensacola, FL 32507, or Highlands United Methodist Church, 1045 20th Street S., Birmingham, AL 35205.

VONCILE COOPER HARRELSON

Mrs. Voncile Cooper Harrelson, 89, of Red Level, passed away on Wed., May 20, 2015, at Joyce Goldenburge Hospice facility under the care of Covenant Hospice.

Funeral services were held on Fri., May 22, 2015, at New Hope Baptist Church in Red Level. The Rev. Keith Parker officiated. Interment followed in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery with Keahey Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include sons, Jimmy (Trudie) Harrelson of Red Level, Michael (Lynn) Harrelson Sr. of Red Level, Ray (Angie) Harrelson of Selma and Michael (Stephanie) Harrelson Jr. of Red Level; daughters, Barbara (Edward) Schneider of Tyler, Ala., Linda Barr of Red Level and Betty (Perry) Jones of Andalusia; daughter-in-law, Faye Harrelson of Red Level; brothers, Randolph (Beck) Cooper of Moss Point, Miss.; 23 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Harrelson was preceded in death by her husband, Garland S. Harrelson; son, Jerry D. Harrelson; parents, George Sam Cooper and Rochelle Cooper; brother, George Sam Cooper Jr.; and sister, Mary Cooper Lacey.

HIRAM MORGAN LAMBERT

Mr. Hiram Morgan Lambert, 87, passed away on Wed., May 20, 2015, at his residence in Red Level.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today, Sat., May 23, 2015, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Billy Boles officiating. Interment will follow in Fairmount Cemetery.

Hiram is survived by his wife, Annie Laura Lambert of Red Level; son, Lehn Lambert of Red Level; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Billy Liles of Red Level; grandchildren, Wesley Liles of Hattiesburg, Miss. and Savannah Liles (Shane) Betterton of Dothan; and sister, Faye Hammac of Atmore.

HAZEL MOONEY DUER

Hazel Mooney Duer went to heaven on her 100th birthday, which was on Sun., May 17, 2015. At the time of her death, she resided at the Opp Health and Rehab in Opp.

She was the firstborn of Frank and Verdie Lambert of Wauchula, Fla., in 1915. On July 25, 1934, she married Alvin Delpher Mooney and following his death in 1966, she married O.J. Duer in 1968.

She lived most of her married life in Maitland, Fla., and was a faithful member of the Church of Christ in any community in which she lived. She was a homemaker for most of her life, but worked as a florist in her later years. She enjoyed oil painting and adding to her Depression Glass collection.

She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Myrlin (Robert) Shaw of Sunderland, Ontario, Canada; Betty (Harold) McDaniel of St. Cloud, Fla.; Eugene (Vicki) Mooney of Frostproof, Fla.; and D. Duane (Brenda) Mooney of Andalusia.

She was loved by her nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands; her brothers, Harold Lambert and Corris Lambert; a sister, Katherine Maassen; and one grandson, Charles Barcosky.

The graveside service was conducted on Fri., May 22, at 1 p.m. at the Glen Haven Memorial Cemetery in Winter Park, Fla., with Minister Mark Copeland officiating.

HELEN F. BRADLEY

Helen F. Bradley of Andalusia, beloved mother of Patricia Coleman-Shoulders, Katherine (Alonzo) Reed, Bobby Ray Bradley and Michele A. Bradley; sister of Myrtle (Albert) Bradley. She is also survived by four grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and many loving relatives and friends.

The family will be present to receive friends today, Sat., May 23, 2015, from 10-11 a.m. at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 701 East Delavan Ave., Buffalo, N.Y., where the funeral service will follow at 11 a.m.

Interment will follow in St. Matthew Cemetery.
