TIMOTHY LEE BOWERS

Timothy Lee Bowers of Co. Road 505, Elba, Ala., passed away on Sat., May 30, 2015. He was 55.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Sat., June 6, 2015, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva with the Rev. Rob Bowers officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. and continue until service time.

Mr. Bowers was born May 28, 1960, in Winter Garden, Fla., to the late Clifton Cleo and Lillie Belle Moore Bowers.

He was a 1978 graduate of Samson High School and later graduated from McArthur Technical College.

For 14 years he worked for the Andalusia Star-News as prepress manager. Tim will be remembered for his wit, sense of humor and most importantly, the love he had for his family.

Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Amy Elizabeth Findley Bowers of Elba; two daughters, Christina Leann Carswell (Michael) of Tuscaloosa and Katie Nicole Bowers (William Simmons) of Geneva; three brothers, Floyd Bowers (Jan) of Franklin, N.C., Ed Bowers (Sandy) of Gotha, Fla. and J.C. Bowers (Debbie) of Opp; several special nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and other extended family and friends.

JESSICA LEE RAINEY

Ms. Jessica Lee Rainey, 26, a resident of Dozier, passed away on Sun., May 31, 2015.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow, Wed., June 3, 2015, in the chapel of Turner Funeral Home with the Revs. Jerry Hogwood, Eugene Meadows and William Leverette officiating. Interment will follow in New Ebenezer Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Ms. Rainey is survived by her father, Joe R. (Lisa) Rainey; her mother, Lee Ann Rainey; sister, Haley Rainey; brother, Jonny Rainey; grandparents, Johnny and Carolyn Campbell; nephew, Blaine Lee Slawson; other family members, Joseph Lowe and Earline Lowe; and numerous other cousins and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Brandon Heartsill, Chad Heartsill, Winston Heartsill, Austin Lowe, Sean Heath, Jonny Rainey and Alexander Campbell.

The family requests that any memorials be made to the Alabama Head Injury Foundation or the New Ebenezer Cemetery Fund.

They will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 6-8.

KATHERINE GENELLE WORLEY WYATT

Mrs. Katherine Genelle Worley Wyatt, 85, of Andalusia, passed away on Sun., May 31, 2015, at her residence.

Mrs. Wyatt was born on Sept. 24, 1929, in the rural Covington County community of Antioch. She attended Straughn School and after being double promoted, completed high school and started college at Troy in June of 1945 at the age of 15 years. Soon after, in 1946, she began her teaching career at the age of 16 on an emergency teaching certificate.

In August of 1947, Katherine married her high school sweetheart, Leslie Wyatt. Together they went back to Troy, where she completed her degree in education, and Leslie began his college career.

Mrs. Wyatt loved teaching, and during her 43-year career, she taught in many schools, including Escambia Farms, Midway, Laurel Hill, Carolina, Church Street, and her last 25 years were at East Three Notch School. In 1983, Mrs. Wyatt was honored be her fellow educators to be selected to the Jacksonville State Elementary Teachers Hall of Fame. She loved her students and had many fond memories from those years for the rest of her life. One particular story she shared was about a student who had struggled all year in reading. Near the end of the year, he read to her a story from the newspaper, which they celebrated together as a great achievement — and it was!

During her life, she was active in the Pilot Club, Delta Kappa Gamma and the First Baptist Church of Andalusia. She had a keen mind and spirit until her last days, keeping abreast of the news and politics, her friends and family, and always was willing to listen and give advice.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow, Wed., June 3, 2015, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Fred Karthaus and Bro. Jim Walker officiating. Interment will follow in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Foreman Funeral Home.

She is survived by her three sons, Richard Leslie (Sonny) Wyatt, of Washington, D.C., Terry Allen Wyatt and David Martin Wyatt, both of Andalusia; two grandchildren, Lillian Riley Wyatt and Richard John Wyatt; sisters, Louise Henby of Andalusia and Margie Murphy of Texas; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Audrie Merritt Raines and Hardy Worley; a brother, Roscoe Worley; one sister, Merle Josey; and her husband, Richard Leslie Wyatt, Sr.

Pallbearers will be Carl Lawson, Eric Josey, Paul Owens, Joseph Robinson, Kevin Kennedy and Jerome Parker.

RUTH GARVIN

Mrs. Ruth Garvin, of Andalusia, passed away on Fri., May 29, 2015, at Florala Health and Rehab.

Funeral services were held on Mon., June 1, 2015, at the Keahey Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Roger Mims officiated. Interment followed in the Carolina Baptist Church Cemetery with Keahey Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include a son, Pete (Virginia) Garvin of Andalusia; daughters, Marie Harris of Paxton, Fla., Marilyn Grimes of Florala, Carolyn (C.T.) Adkison of Wing, Loretta (Dennis) Harrison of Florala, Beverly (Tony) Stubbs of Orange Beach and Karen Fleming of Andalusia; twin sister, Ruby (Lomax) Ingram of Red Level; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Garvin was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Garvin; and two sons.
