Hot and fresh.

That’s what the cooks will be delivering to hungry customers at Happy Garden, Opp’s newest Chinese restaurant.

Happy Garden Manager Cody McGaughey said the restaurant will serve traditional Chinese faire buffet style.

“We have a very large menu,” McGaughey said. “We offer it seven days a week. It’s not the biggest (buffet), but we try to have a good variety out there.”

McGaughey said they will rotate dishes out during lunch and dinner hours.

“We’re trying to keep everything a lot fresher and hotter,” he said. “We’re trying to make it similar (to what was here). We just got about every dish most would like.”

McGaughey said the restaurant, which has been open since March, offers free WIFI, party rooms for birthdays, anniversaries and meetings, and always has local games airing on TV, depending on the day.

Happy Garden holds about 85 patrons on the main dining floor with additional seating in the party rooms.

“We have another party room that we’re revamping, and it’ll be open to the public later this year,” he said.

The restaurant will feature two buffet bars and a good selection of desserts.

McGaughey said as people come in the door, the food will be brought out fresh and hot.

Happy Garden is located at 807 Florala Highway in Opp. It is open from Monday through Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until 9:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until 10:30 p.m.; and on Sunday from 11 a.m. until 9:30 p.m.

The lunch buffet price is $5.95 plus tax and a drink from Monday through Saturday. Dinner is $7.50 plus tax and a drink. On Friday and Saturday, the buffet dinner is $8.50 plus tax and a drink. The all-day dinner on Sunday is $7.50.

McGaughey said the reason why the business was opened in Opp was because of its location.

“There was already a preexisting one there,” he said. “It had all of the equipment there. It looked like it was a place that needed to be brought back in the town. It didn’t look like there was a whole lot to be offered. So, why not?”
